Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston greeted protesting supporters outside his house on a motorbike in bizarre scenes on Sunday afternoon.

The disgruntled fans came together in the small village of Waddington in Lancashire and chanted at the gates of the Oyston family property.

They are incensed with the running of their club after relegation from the Premier League four years ago. Blackpool finished rock bottom of the Championship last season and recorded the joint-worst points tally in the division’s history.

And Oyston brazenly met the fans aboard a bike, while his son was snapped laughing and taking photographs inside a Land Rover.

Oyston is due to start a six-week ban from football activities sanctioned by the Football Association after labelling supporter Steve Smith a ‘retard’ and told him to ‘enjoy your special needs day out’ in a text message exchange in December.

The ramble to Waddington was organised by protest group Tangerine Knights, while Blackpool Supporters’ Trust are in the process of bidding for the club.

Manager Neil McDonald is struggling to assemble a strong enough squad for the campaign in League One and they are among the bookies’ favourites to suffer relegation again.

The relationship between Oyston and his fanbase has deteriorated to such an extent that thousands are planning to boycott matches this season, with Blackpool finding shifting new season tickets almost impossible.
