Sussex Downs claim Daily Mail award after recording huge upset

Sussex Downs College from Lewes have been named Daily Mail Cup Under 18 team of the month after creating the first big upset of the competition by putting out Brighton College, winning 29-5 away.

They have only been running rugby courses since 2002. This result and their run to the fourth round last year underlines their progress.

They were unable to repeat their giant-killing exploits in the second round this week, losing 21-10 at Worthing College but will now have a crack at the U18 Vase.

Uppingham collected the Under 15 award after an outstanding September.

Uppingham, captained by Tom Moxon, celebrated victories over The Perse 37-7; Ampleforth 46-5; Haileybury 58-7; Prince William's, Oundle 62-0 in the Cup; Cheltenham College 43-7 and Bedford School 43-12.

They have taken that barnstorming form into October and reached the third round of the Cup yesterday by thrashing Wisbech Grammar School in Cambridgeshire.
