Bel Mooney ties the knot

When her marriage to broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby fell apart after 35 years, Bel Mooney vowed she would never again tie the knot.

But she put that heartbreak behind her on Saturday when she married a photographer 16 years her junior.

Just 44 friends witnessed the low-key ceremony in a Bath church – including the guest of honour, Bonnie, Ms Mooney's Maltese dog.

The 60-year-old agony aunt, who wore a vivid purple dress, was given away by her TV producer son Daniel, 33.

She has known her new husband, Robin Allison-Smith, since he was 18 but they did not hit it off romantically until 2004, when her marriage collapsed over Dimbleby's relationship with opera singer Susan Chilcott, who died of breast cancer.

Writing about her wedding yesterday, Mooney said: 'Even when you are older, when maybe you have experienced much pain, it is still possible to be renewed.'

Six months ago, Dimbleby married publicist Jessica Ray, who, at 32, is 30 years his junior.
