Paula Cole suing to get royalties from Dawson's Creek for licensing her hit song I Don't Want To Wait

Her single I Don't Want To Wait became an instant hit after being featured on the successful series, Dawson's Creek.

But Paula Cole claims she hasn't reaped the rewards from the show's opening song, reports TMZ.

The 47-year-old singer allegedly 'had to fight Warner Bros. Records and Imago Recording just to get an accounting of royalties she's owed' for Dawson's Creek, as well as other programmes which feature her music.

After reviewing the documents, the Grammy winner insisted the numbers don't quite add up.

Paula believes she could have been missing up to one million dollars in royalties.

The singer is now suing to get accurate accounting to ensure she gets the correct amount of royalties.

The Massachusetts native also wants master recordings of all her songs, which includes her hit, Where Have All The Cowboys Gone.

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that the finale of the classic show was meant to be different.

By the end of Dawson's Creek, Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) was in the arms of Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) - with some fans hoping she would end up with Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek).

And it seems those hopeful fans were almost granted their wish, as Joey was originally meant to end up with her BFF, Dawson, for a quintessential 'girl next door' love story.

'It was clear to us that it was she and Dawson who would wind up together. Halfway through, Kevin calls me and says, "I changed my mind,"' Paul Stupin said, reported Us Weekly.

The series followed a group of friends in the small coastal town of Capeside as they help each other cope with adolescence.

The popular series ran from 1998 to 2003.

There had been rumours about a reunion in the works, but that now seems unlikely.

During a previous interview with Yahoo! Style, Katie said: 'I don’t know, does it work today? I don’t want them to grow up. You know, it’s kind of like your parents — they never get out of their fifties, that’s where they are.

'We just did it, we all enjoyed it. It was of a certain time, it was pre-internet. There was an innocence there.'
