Tottenham handed Bale boost

Gareth Bale has given Tottenham a boost after scans showed he has not broken a bone in an ankle.

The Wales international will be out of action for more than a week after hobbling out of Monday's 3-1 defeat at Newcastle in the first half.

He will miss tonight's UEFA Cup clash with Getafe, Sunday's Premier League clash with Blackburn and Wednesday's Carling Cup tie with Blackpool - all at White Hart Lane - but may be fit for the long trip to Middlesbrough next Saturday.

Spurs had feared the 19-year-old, who has been superb down the left flank following his move from Southampton in the summer, would be sidelined until the new year.

But manager Martin Jol revealed: "We've scanned the injury several times and nothing is broken. There is significant bruising, it is still painful and we'll know more once the bruising has gone down. I feel he will be fine though and will only be out for a week to ten days."
