Lawrence must forget his brother

Last updated at 18:55 02 February 2008

When British-born

Lawrence Tynes takes his

place in tonight's Super

Bowl as kicker for the

New York Giants, his

story will look for all the

world like the

embodiment of the

American Dream. But the

dream has a dark side.

When Tynes, born in

Greenock 29 years ago,

lines up against the

unbeaten New England

Patriots in the University

of Phoenix Stadium, his

30-year-old brother Mark

will be following the

action from his prison cell

in Arkansas after

receiving a 27-year

sentence in 2004 for his

part in a £10 million

marijuana ring.

Tynes still talks to his

brother by telephone

three times a week but

said: "I love my brother

but I don't want anybody

to give me pity because of

what happened to him."

The Patriots are chasing

the perfect season of 19

straight victories.
