Side-step for Amir as he eyes Romanov fight

Amir Khan wants to

fight Yuri Romanov for

the European lightweight

title and put his bid for a

world crown on hold.

The top men in the

division, veterans Joel

Casamayor of Cuba and

America's Nate Campbell,

are involved in other

challenges which could

keep them out of reach

this year.

But unbeaten

Khan, 21, from Bolton,

sees Romanov, 25, from

Belarus, as an ideal

opponent.

Romanov

showed his class with a

six-round stoppage of

British champion Jon

Thaxton, but Khan said:

'He'd be good for me,

technically and

physically, and my speed

would break him down.'
