Hutton refuses to condemn Cole for horror tackle

Alan Hutton today refused to

condemn Chelsea's Ashley Cole

for his ugly challenge on the

Spurs defender.

Cole was lucky to escape with

only a yellow card from referee

Mike Riley, particularly as the

Chelsea left-back ranted and

raved at the official before being

booked.

No hard feelings: Cole claims it wasn't a foul, but Hutton forgives him

Hutton just took satisfaction

from depriving Chelsea of

three points instead.

He said: “He went to win the

ball and I've just got there

quicker. I wasn't thinking about

whether he would be sent off, I

knew the challenge was high but

so was the ball.

“I am not blaming him for it,

I've probably done a similar

challenge in my career. He said

he never meant it afterwards and

that's fine with me.”

Spurs boss Juande Ramos

added: “The referee decided it was

a yellow card, but we've seen

tackles much less serious that

have earned red. We're fortunate

there weren't any injuries.”
