How many iPhones does it take to stop a bullet fired from an AK-74 assault rifle? Apple handsets lined up and destroyed in quest for answer
- YouTube channel behind video predict bullet will get through four phones
- Team fire two bullets from AK-74 rifle and track distance travelled by bullet
- They then obliterate iPhones with a shotgun and the assault rifle for fun
It’s the question on everyone’s lips: how many iPhones does it take to stop a bullet fired from an AK-74 assault rifle?
According to the team at EverythingApplePro – a YouTube channel based in Portland and dedicated to reviewing Apple products – the answer is five.
Testing the durability of the iPhone, and seeing whether it is capable of saving a life, the team line up eight handsets and lock and load.
The tester from the YouTube channel lines up the phones and fires at them with the assault rifle
The tester predicts that the bullet, which can travel at up to 2,900 feet per second, will deflect upon impact
The team predict that the bullet will travel through four phones but the first shot sees it go through five
They predict that the bullet will deflect upon impact and that it will struggle to get though four phones.
Fired from the gun is a steel core bullet, which the tester explains can travel at up to 2,900 feet per second, and will therefore obliterate the first couple of phones.
Filming on a regular camera – one that does no possess slow motion capabilities – the team get started and fire at the phones for the first time.
Travelling through four iPhones, the bullet lands in the screen of the fifth and interestingly appears to create more damage to the handsets the further it travels.
The team discover that it would take five iPhones to save your life from a bullet fired from an AK-74 rifle
The tester repeats the process, firing a little higher the second time, and pierces five phones with the bullet
The tester repeats the process, firing a little higher the second time, and manages to pierce five phones on this occasion.
He then picks up the sixth phone in his hand – the screen of which is smashed – and proves that it still works.
The video concludes with the tester annihilating the phones with a shotgun.
And then further destroying the remains with the AK-74.
The footage was not captured on a slow motion camera but the extent of the damage is clear to see
Interestingly the bullet appears to create more damage to the handsets the further it travels
