'She's a really f***in' good singer': Bill Murray defends Miley Cyrus at Comic-Con after signing her name on fan's forehead

Bill Murray during his Comic-Con debut on Thursday defended Miley Cyrus a day after autographing a fan's forehead with her name.

The 64-year-old comedian strode into Hall H at the annual convention in San Diego with a bandanna around his head in character as rock promoter Richie Lanz to promote his upcoming film Rock The Kasbah, according to an article by The Daily Beast.

The Caddyshack star on Wednesday participated in the John Deere Classic golf tournament pro-am in Silvis, Illinois.

He obliged a fan at the event with an autograph by writing 'Miley Cyrus' in blue ink on his forehead.

Miley, 22, posted an image of the autograph on Instagram on Thursday along with a snap of herself with 'BILL MURRAY' transposed on her forehead.

Bill during his wide-ranging appearance at Comic-Con stood up for pop star Miley who taped a guest appearance on his upcoming Christmas special on Netflix.

'I'm gonna say this officially: Miley Cyrus …is good. I was not particularly convinced. Miley Cyrus is really f***in’ good. She can really sing,' Bill told the crowd.

'I just thought she was a knucklehead crazy girl, the kind of girl you want to go on a road trip with who didn't have ID or something, but she can really sing. So I don't want to hear any more bad rapping on Miley Cyrus, OK?,' he added.

Bill held court for more than an hour after walking through the crowd as Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple played during his entrance.

Jennifer Lawrence, 24, ran into Bill and looked as thrilled as any other fan with her encounter.

Bill during his appearance also praised his Rock The Kasbah star Zooey Deschanel, 35, for her singing skills during the film's wrap party.

Bill recounted how Zooey took on the challenging song We Are The World.

'She's got to sing the pitches and the keys and notes of 14 of the greatest singers in America. If she died tomorrow, I'd say her karaoke work would live forever,' Bill said.

He also was asked about his favourite role.

'Once upon a time, I did save the city of New York. And I had the coolest damn car to drive around Manhattan,' he said in reference to Ghostbusters.

The Rushmore star also talked about the slow pace of social change as he compared the campaign to end the flying of the Confederate flag to the long effort to end slavery.

'So how do you make a change? It really starts with yourself,' he said.

Rock The Kasbah is scheduled to hit theaters in the US on October 23.
