Here, Chewy on these! Star Wars director JJ Abrams hands out free doughnuts to queuing fans at Comic-Con

He is best known for his sometimes overenthusiastic love of lens flare.

But it seems canny director JJ Abrams also has a flair for winning friends after he handed out free doughnuts to fans as they waited outside the hall for the long-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel at Comic-Con on Friday.

It certainly won the bespectacled filmmaker plenty of even more enthusiastic supporters in the run-up to the thrilling event.

Geek Kristian Odland tweeted: "JJ Abrams just bought donuts for everyone in line outside Hall H. Thanks JJ!"

But while fans are hungry for more clips from the new movie, it is understood n new trailer or scenes of the movie will be shown, with the next trailer instead expected in the autumn. 

However they will be treated to a chinwag with Abrams, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and producer Kathleen Kennedy. 

In addition actors who have yet to speak publicly about their roles are expected to be surprise guests, and in a move sure to make Girls go weak at the knees t is rumoured Girls hunk Adam Driver could make an appearance.

Special behind the scenes footage is also expected to be shown, which opens up the dream prospect of Harrison Ford playing practical jokes on Chewbacca and his old original trilogy sparring partners Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

The first action figure from Episode VII also debuted at Comic-Con as an exclusive to the convention, and comes in the form of a six-inch Black Series First Order Stormtrooper.

And the packaging has teased some details about the Stormtroopers in the upcoming film - the plot of which is still shrouded in mystery.

According to the description, the First Order Stormtroopers took over after the fall of the Empire, with the packaging stating: 'The tyranny of Imperial rule sparked rebellion, and the Stormtrooper legions were scattered in the aftermath of the Empire’s fall.

'Now, the rise of the First Order ushers in the next chapter in the Stormtrooper legacy as a new era of ruthless brutality begins.'

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has so far released two teasers. The film hits cinemas on December 18.
