England look to replicate Chelsea by keeping Spurs' Modric quiet

Luka Modric

Dangerman: Modric in action during Croatia's 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan

Luka Modric's £16.5m move to Tottenham this summer has given coach Fabio Capello a crucial opportunity to step up his scouting reports on the key Croatian midfielder.

Capello was at Stamford Bridge 10 days ago to see Modric struggle to make an impact as Chelsea kept him in check.

Four of the Chelsea players who played in that match will line up in Zagreb on Wednesday night.

Modric failed to create a single chance as Chelsea were quick to close him down at every opportunity and captain John Terry said: 'Modric is a very dangerous player and we have seen that when we played against them in Euro 2008 qualification.

'We all know what his strengths and weaknesses are.

'I came up against him playing for Chelsea only 10 days ago and he was one of the players we talked about before the game to keep quiet and I think we did that.

'"I am aware that if you get tight to him, he struggles to do what he does best.

'As a group of lads, we have to know how he can and can't hurt us - the manager will be talking about him as well as the other Croatian players.'
