Robbie Fowler used to be hot property but he's wasting his time going to Blackburn

Robbie Fowler has given up on a final big pay day and decided his best bet is a pay-as-you-play deal at Blackburn, but Hatchet Man wonders why he is bothering.

He played only 13 league games for Cardiff last season and at 33 years old is way past his best.

His reputation has been tarnished by injury and inactivity and the competition of Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy, Jason Roberts and Matt Derbyshire will be too much for him.

Heyday: Fowler was a hero during his time at Liverpool

Fowler was once a great player but now he has lost the hunger to play at the top level.

Having considered a move to Norwegian side SK Brann, that is beyond doubt.

He should either carry on playing for a decent wage at a level of the game that suits his fading talents because he still loves it, or he might as well concentrate on his property business because even his old mate Paul Ince is not prepared to offer him golden splinters on the bench.
