How to save £20,000 on your wedding: Tying the knot abroad can mean big savings, reveals survey
- Survey has found overseas weddings to cost between £6,000 and £7,000
- A wedding in Britain can now top £24,000 - more than a house deposit
- Most hotels and resorts offer bespoke wedding coordination services
Of course, your wedding is the one of the happiest days of your life - but it's also quickly becoming one of the most expensive.
The average cost of a wedding in Britain now tops £24,000, according to a recent survey, which is, in some cases, even more than a deposit for a house.
But, for those couples heading abroad for their big day, some serious savings may be realised.
The average cost of a wedding in Britain now tops £24,000 - but a destination ceremony is far cheaper
Not only will those getting hitched abroad be privy to gorgeous weather and, hopefully, an easier planning process, loveholidays.com, in conjunction with TLF, has also found the average cost of a beach wedding to be between £6,000 and £7,000.
Recent research has also found a growing trend among Britons to opt for an overseas wedding - not surprising considering that costs to get married at home are only increasing.
The majority of couples surveyed revealed that, as well as for financial reasons, couple marry away due to the beautiful destinations and intimate environment that such a wedding promotes.
Presumably only close friends and family will travel long distances, after all.
A survey of couples found that a huge potential for savings, as well as a stunning destination, are two key draws when it comes to deciding to have a wedding abroad
The idea of a perfect beach or city wedding entices others, while the ease of planning is another top reason to marry abroad.
Most hotels and resorts offer on-site bespoke wedding coordination services to help you organise your big day from the UK.
Matthew Lawson, Ecommerce Director at loveholidays.com, said: 'As a travel agency, we can understand why couples tend to go away and get married.
'Not only is the money saving aspect the most crucial to them, but at the same time they will tick other requirements which they will receive for booking abroad.
'Who wouldn't want beautiful scenic views, and a personal wedding planner, which you get as standard by booking overseas.'
