Not such a dancing pig after all: John Sergeant sheds two stone on Strictly

His lamentable performances on the show have earned him the unfortunate nickname ‘Dancing Pig’.

But for his growing army of admirers, it seems Strictly Come Dancing’s
John Sergeant is a genuine Babe.

The 64-year-old has been inundated with love letters from adoring fans since the BBC1 hit started nine weeks ago - particularly as he has now shed two stone.

‘Each week he keeps getting more and more messages from fans wishing him well,’ said his Siberian dance partner Kristina Rihanoff.

‘I think he finds it very flattering but he’s happily married and loves his wife very much.’

Sergeant has been steadily losing the pounds since his strenuous training regime began.

‘Since we started training he’s lost exactly two stone and he says he feels fitter and healthier,’  Miss Rihanoff revealed.

‘He’s actually eating less than he did before. He’s not changed his diet  but he says the exercise makes him less hungry.’

'Feeling fitter and healthier': Sergeant loses two stone

All week viewers have been pledging their support for the former BBC and ITN political correspondent.

But his popularity among the public is not shared by the judges, who have been giving him low scores and begging viewers to vote him off.

One of the panel, Craig Revel Horwood, appears incandescent the veteran reporter is still in the competition.

He told the Times: 'This is a dance competition. It's not Strictly Come Entertainment or Strictly Come John Sergeant.

'We are supposed to be voting for the best dancer, not the worst.'

Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, who was kicked off earlier in the series, claimed Sergeant had turned the competition into a pantomime.

'It's frustrating, both for the judges and for the people who are better than him,' he said.

Revel Horwood awarded the couple's Cha Cha to Twist and Shout last week just one single point after branding it a 'disaster'.

Fellow judge Arlene Phillips added: 'You were outstanding at dancing really badly... that dance had nothing to say and neither do I.'

In total, they received 12 and were far and away at the bottom of the results' table. Only the viewers' vote keeps saving them each week, keeping them out of the dance off.

Miss Rihanoff admits their chances of winning were slim and tipped television presenter Lisa Snowdon to be awarded the Strictly crown.

Holby City star Tom Chambers is however the favourite to win with his partner Camilla Dallerup.
