Football must be affordable to the 'normal family', insists City's Dietmar Hamann

Dietmar Hamann has warned that football is 'walking on thin ice'.

The Manchester City midfielder is looking forward to new signings following the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group, which should go through today, but he insists that watching football must remain affordable.

He said: 'It would be a shame if the normal family could no longer afford to go to the stadium. They cannot ignore the fans.'

Michael Johnson has signed a new £50,000-a-week deal to keep him at City until 2013.
