HATCHET MAN: Deluded Comolli should realise he played major part in Tottenham's woeful start to season

Damien Comolli must go down as one of the most deluded officials ever to have had a senior role among the management staff at Tottenham.

Now at St Etienne after being sacked for the significant part he played in Spurs' worst ever start to a season, the former sporting director claims his time at the club went exceptionally well.

Never mind the fact that his scatter gun approach to player recruitment failed to give the managers the types or quality of player they needed at crucial times.

Or that his pathetically poor performance helped bring about the demise of Martin Jol and his successor Juande Ramos.

The man who made such great finds for Spurs as Kevin-Prince Boateng, Younes Kaboul, Ricardo Rocha and Adel Taarabt, insisted: 'With me we qualified for Europe three times, which hadn't happened for I don't know how long. We also won a trophy. We were very successful.'

The truth is, if Harry Redknapp had not had as strong a negotiating position or as much experience to demand a clean sweep of the management staff before taking charge, relegation would still be of great concern to fans and Comolli would be a key reason why.

Spurs are looking up the table rather propping it up now and the Frenchman can take no credit whatsoever, however many brazen attempts he makes to re-write history.
