Brave new Face of Gillingham finally makes the A-Team

Gillingham have called in The A-Team to save their season after taking Roland Benedict, son of actor Dirk, who starred in the 1980s cult programme.

Striker Benedict, 18, played for Gillingham reserves in a 2-1 defeat to Southampton, watched by dad Dirk, who also starred as Lieutenant Starbuck in Battlestar Galatica.

Dirk said: "Roland has played soccer since he was four years old and always wanted to play in England so I said 'let's go for it'. He is quite good."

The six-footer made a name for himself on the college basketball circuit last year and credited Dirk for making him such a good player, insisting: 'I got the fundamental side from my dad. I wouldn’t be as good a player without him.'

He dominated the Bigfork High School team scoring charts at Varsity level in Montana but always admitted 'soccer' was his second love.

His first job will be to help the Gills sweep aside last weekend's 7-0 League Two hammering at Shrewsbury.

Father Dirk, 63, played 'Face' in The A-Team, and appeared in Celebrity Big Brother - along with Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty - two years ago.
