£11,000 off the list price of a Jaguar as manufacturers slash prices

Car buyers are getting the best deals in eight years as manufacturers facing plunging sales slash an average of £1,932 off new models. 

What Car? said the discount was £244 more than at the start of 2008.

The magazine found as much as 45 per cent was cut from the list price of some cars, while a Jaguar XJ was being offered for £33,764, or £11,500 off the normal cost.

Ford Fiestas were on sale at 15 per cent off, while consumers could get ten per cent off a Volkswagen Golf.

Car sales slumped in the last three months and are set to fall further over the winter, which is always a slow time in the industry.
