Here's this week's XI:

GK - Craig Gordon (Sunderland) - Scotland's No 1 made a string of fine saves in Sunderland's 2-0 win over Middlesbrough. It was his first clean sheet of the season.

RB - Andy Griffin (Stoke) - Played well in helping Stoke leave Anfield with an unexpected point. Made three successful clearances.

LB - George McCartney (Sunderland) - Made nine clearances as he impressed in Sunderland's 2-0 victory over Boro.

CB - Abdoulaye Faye (Stoke) - Immense in partnership with Sonko as Stoke rode their luck to get a draw at Anfield. Liverpool had 76 per cent of possession during the game so Stoke's defence had a busy 90 minutes!

CB - Kolo Toure (Arsenal) - Influential as Arsenal defeated Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.  86.4 per cent pass completion rate.

RM - Shaun Wright-Philips (Man City) - Destroyed Portsmouth with his pace, trickery and sheer determination to get forward and help Man City's front players. Great goal and brilliant back-heeled assist. Outstanding. He even made three tackles - and won all of them.

LM - Stephen Ireland (Man City) - Dynamic and creative, Ireland was the key factor in the Manchester City rout against Portsmouth. Playing well for City this season. Played for 77 minutes, making 11 tackles during that time.

CM - Robinho (Man City) - Back heels, stepovers, Ron Atkinson 'lollipops', a goal and an assist. A complete performance which justified his price tag and hype. Played for 86 minutes. Had an impressive 96.2 per cent pass completion rate.

CM - Denilson (Arsenal) - One assist and one goal. Another solid performance from the young Arsenal midfielder.  Made 77 passes during the game.

Leading the line: Jo

ST - Jo (Man City) - The usually solid pairing of Campbell and Distin were unable to cope with the lanky centre forward’s strength and skill. He scored one goal and provided an assist for Robinho before being substituted after 72 minutes. Scored with his only attempt on target.

ST - Di Michele (West Ham) - Tormented the Newcastle defence with his pace and movement. A brace and an assist underlines his man of the match performance. A class act.  Scored two from four attempts on goal.

Manager: Special mention for  Zola in his first game and Mark Hughes for a 6-0 win, but Roy Keane gets this week’s award.

Bringing on Chopra won Sunderland the game against Boro and Keane deserves praise for showing great managerial support to Chopra during his much publicised recent personal issues.
