Everton new boys Gerard Deulofeu and Tom Cleverley continued to settle into their new surroundings on Tuesday as Roberto Martinez put his players through their second day of pre-season training at Finch Farm.

After spending the 2013-14 season on loan at Goodison Park, Deulofeu returned to the club on a permanent basis earlier this month after joining from Barcelona in £4.2million deal, while Cleverley penned a five-year contract after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer.

The pair joined up with their new team-mates for the first time on Monday, as first-team stars including Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley and Phil Jagielka all returned to action ahead of the new campaign.

England international Cleverley, who played under Martinez during a loan spell at Wigan during the 2010-11 season, looked to be enjoying himself as he shared a joke with veteran midfielder Leon Osman, defender Seamus Coleman and Deulofeu.

The 25-year-old was also pictured chatting with Three Lions team-mate Jagielka as Martinez began his preparations for the next term with the help of first-team coach Duncan Ferguson.

The Toffees face League One outfit Swindon in their opening pre-season friendly on Saturday before flying to Singapore to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy alongside Arsenal, Stoke and a Singapore Select XI.

England Under 21 defender Luke Garbutt will be part of Everton's travelling party for the trip to Asia - something skipper Jagielka is delighted about.

The former Leeds youngster signed a new five-year deal last week to end speculation about his future and commit himself to the Merseyside club.

Jagielka told evertontv: 'I’m delighted he’s signed a deal. It’s been a little bit messy for him, not particularly his fault and it’s just sometimes the way contract negotiations go.

'I know he loves being here. With the way it got drawn out, I’m sure there were other offers and promises from other teams to give him first-team football.

'I’ve seen a lot of people leave Everton, thinking they’re potentially going on to bigger and better things, and come unstuck so it’s nice that Luke has stayed with us and sees his future here.

'He’s always put the effort in in training and things like that. He’s a great lad and he has so much potential.'
