A source told the website his issues 'developed over a period of time.'

An insider confirmed to Daily Mail on Friday the 51-year-old had entered a treatment program for substance abuse,

The news comes just less than a month after Beverly Hills police said they received calls reporting a possible drunken driver.

Officers later stopped Stamos, who was the only person in the vehicle.

The actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center because of a possible medical condition, police said.

At the hospital it was determined by police that Stamos had been driving under influence, and he was arrested. Police cited him for DUI and released him to the care of the hospital.

'Thanks to everyone for their love & support. I'm home & well,' Stamos tweeted the morning after his arrest. 'Very appreciative of the BHPD & Cedars for their care.'
