A five-month-old, 14lb American black bear was picked up by Danny Allen of High Mountain Expeditions on the side of the Nolichucky River near Erwin, Tennessee, on Thursday. Noli Bear - named after the river she was rescued from, had been seen struggling on the side of the river for days before she jumped into Allen's raft. She was taken by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to the Appalachian Bear Rescue in Townsend, which has returned orphaned, injured or medically in-need bears to the wild since 1996.

The Harry Potter author stepped in to defend six-times Wimbledon champion Serena Williams on Twitter yesterday. After JK Rowling had posted a congratulatory tweet to Serena, a troll interjected suggesting that the tennis icon was 'built like a man.' The wordsmith wasted no time in responding to the troll. Novak Djokovic was crowned Wimbledon champion today for the third time, beating Roger Federer in a nail-biting final. The Serbian 28-year-old soared to victory for the second year running following a four-set thriller. He screamed in delight and pumped his arms after winning his first match point, before eating some of the hallowed Centre Court grass. The World Number One sealed the win - his ninth grand slam title - in the fourth set of the game, with the match ending 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 and 6-3. The players were welcomed on to Centre Court with roaring applause from the crowd which included Pippa Middleton, Helena Bonham Carter, Kate Winslet and Anna Wintour and Bradley Cooper, Hugh Grant, Jeremy Piven and Benedict Cumberbatch (pictured right, clockwise).

Letterman, (center) who retired from CBS's Late Show in May after 33 years, resurfaced this weekend, and fired off a series of put-downs in his famed Top Ten format. Coming unexpectedly on stage at a comedy show hosted by Steve Martin and Martin Short in San Antonio, Texas, Letterman mocked everything from Trump's rhetoric to his hair. Trump has been a guest on Letterman's show several times, and is pictured top-left in 2013.

Shortly after midnight on August 15, 2004, a stretch limo pulled up to the Vegas Weddings wedding chapel in Las Vegas and a young couple arrived to say 'I do'. Nicholai Olivia Hilton, 20, and Todd Andrew Meister, 33, said their vows and lit a unity candle inside the chapel's Indoor Garden Chapel in a ceremony that cost a few hundred dollars and pronounced them man and wife at 2:30 am. The video reveals the true scale of last year's Speicher massacre, where up to 1,700 military cadets are thought to have been slaughtered.

Alex Lyngaasm (left), from Oslo, Norway, created a video highlighting his mother's best qualities in hopes of finding her a new love because he believes that she 'deserves a good man'. Lyngaas secretly compiled footage of his mother Eva (pictured), 69, over the course of the past year and showcased his mother's interests, including tennis, beer, yoga, skiing, dancing and taking care of her family. Since the video was posted two months ago, she has received thousands of emails from supporters and potential suitors.

As one of the world's tallest skyscrapers, the Empire State Building offers spectacular, unspoiled views of New York's famous skyline. But when a controversial photographer staged a photo shoot with a topless woman surrounded by unaware tourists, officials were outraged, and they are now looking to ban him from the Big Apple building. Allen Henson first captured the scantily-clad women on the observation deck as part of his 'boobs around town project' - taking pictures of half-naked women in public places. In June he put another casting call on Instagram, asking for a 'model who isn't afraid of heights', prompting concern with the building's attorney. Last year, the Empire State Building sued Henson for $1.1 million over the stunt, the New York Post reported, and the case is still pending.

The surfer said the great white shark was around seven feet long, and the hair-raising encounter occurred about 40 yards from the shore of Manhattan Beach, south-west of Los Angeles. In the clip the brave man (inset) paddles behind the large predator, dips his camera below the surface, and even appears to chase after it in an effort to get a better look.

Mother-of-two Jessica Sinclair, 26, from Cincinnati, Ohio, posted a video of baby daughter Piper's reaction after putting on a pair of prescription glasses for the first time. The viral video, which was posted on Facebook, has already garnered 12,179,340 views over the last week. The desperate wild cat had already climbed to the top branches of a tree to escape the approaching caracal, or desert lynx, in the African savannah, but it was then forced to leap from the tree to save its life. The feline launched itself into empty space, and amazingly landed unscathed on the ground 100ft below, before racing off to complete its unlikely escape. The extraordinary pictures were captured by photographer Tiaan Steynberg in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, on the border of South Africa and Botswana.

The woman was looking down at her Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as she strolled across a street in Manhattan, New York City, on Wednesday when a man on a bicycle approached her. As he zipped past the pedestrian, the man brazenly swiped the phone out of her hands (left) and began pedaling away. The shocked woman pulled off her jacket hood and stood still for a second. But then, seemingly having decided to not give up her beloved device without a fight, she gave chase to the cyclist (top right). Footage shows her sprinting down the middle of the road, into traffic, in a blue skirt and sandals (bottom right). Despite the woman's efforts, the phone thief got away and her Galaxy Note 4 remains missing, police said.

Sci-fi characters were out in force in San Diego on Saturday for this year's Comic Con. More than 130,000 fans are expected to attend the convention during the next few days for autograph signings, TV and film presentations, toy shopping and most importantly to dress up in costumes. This year's costumes were as eclectic as usual - yet perhaps even more androgynous.

In Chile, the Villarrica Volcano(bottom left), around 460 miles south of the capital Santiago, has been erupting overnight. Mount Raung on Indonesia's main island of Java(top left) has been erupting for weeks, and on Sunday a cloud of drifting ash forced the closure of Bali airport for the second time in a week. Also in Indonesia, Mount Sinabung in Sumatra (bottom right), has been erupting for two months, forcing the evacuation of more than 10,000 people.

The two cars, which are being sold by a mulit-millionaire super car fan at an auction in California next month, both have 1,000 bhp and can for from 0 to 60 mph in just three seconds. The two Bugattis, that have 8,000cc engines, are being sold individually but they do come with a free service which would usually cost £60,000. The two motors have top speeds of 260mph and were chassis number 001 and 300 off the production line.

An artist is aiming to create an accurate snapshot of the diversity of all women, by photographing 100 volunteer models of all age, shape and size. Amy Herrmann, from Adelaide, launched the Underneath We Are Women six weeks ago and has been 'overwhelmed' by the response. Ms Herrmann said she initially started it as 'a little side project' before she quickly realised the magnitude of what she was setting out to create. A crowdfunding page has been created for the project, and already people have flocked to offer their support and donated.
