'I was being paid ten per cent of what my male co-star was getting:' Amanda Seyfried speaks out about huge gap between what male and female stars earn in Hollywood

She's currently one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood but Amanda Seyfried says she's no stranger to Hollywood's much-discussed gender pay gap.

Despite starring in box office hits alongside the likes of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, the 29-year-old has revealed that she's still a target for sexism when it comes to her pay packet.

In a new interview, the Ted 2 actress who shot to fame following high-profile roles in Mean Girls and Mamma Mia!, has spoken out against inequality in the movie business.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Amanda revealed that while the issue has never been more hotly contested, women in the film industry are still a target for unfair pay.

Meryl Streep, Patricia Arquette and Emily Blunt are just a few of the Hollywood heavyweights who have spoken out against sexism within the industry in recent acceptance speeches.

But, says Amanda, there's still a long way to go if film bosses want to make things fair.

Having previously starred alongside Magic Mike hunk Channing Tatum, former real-life boyfriend Dominic Cooper, Justin Timberlake and upcoming actor Max Irons, the actress revealed that it's common for her male co-stars to pull a higher fee.

'A few years ago, on one of my big budget films, I found I was being paid 10 per cent of what my male co-star was getting, and we were pretty even in status,' she told the newspaper.

Though the blonde hasn't pointed the finger at the movie or male co-star in question, she has speculated as to why she believes movie bosses think they can get away with it.

And surprisingly, it's not just the fact that she's a woman rising up in what has long been considered a male-dominated business.

The actress has recalled a time when she discovered she was being paid just 10 per cent of her male co-star's wage on a big-budget film, but has declined to reveal on which movie the discrimination occurred

'I think people think that just because I'm easy going and game to do things, I'll just take as little as they offer,' said the Pennsylvanian-born star.

However, now that she's racked up a string of box office hits including Les Misérables and porn star biopic Lovelace, the actress says she has found the courage to walk away from job offers that just aren't good enough.

A bold move for any film star, given the cut-throat nature of the business.

Before each role, the Givenchy perfume ambassador says she weighs up what it'll do for both her reputation as a movie star and her career long-term.

If it doesn't fit with her plan - which appears to be domination of the box office - then she's not afraid to turn it down.

'It's not about how much you get, it's about how fair it is. You have to decide if you're willing to walk away from something, especially as a woman.'
