'He's deader than dead': Game of Thrones director reveals what he told President Obama about Jon Snow's fate

It is the small screen death that has become a national talking point.

And Game Of Thrones director David Nutter revealed the subject of Jon Snow’s demise has reached all the way to the White House during an appearance at Comic-Con on Friday.

The filmmaker insisted he told President Barack Obama the erstwhile lord of the Night’s Watch was as dead as a doornail during a recent meeting.

Nutter told a shocked crowd he told the Commander-in-Chief "Jon Snow is deader than dead," when they partied together just a few weeks ago.

It was the most forthright opinion offered on the fate of upper crust beefcake Kit Harington’s character after he was seemingly stabbed to death at the end of the last series, with his faithful servant Olly delivering the finishing blow.

It remains to be seen quite how literally Nutter’s opinion can be taken, especially as several of the actors and actresses mumbled and laughed nervously when a fan asked what they will miss most about working with the hunk, whose uncle is Sir Nicholas John Harington, the 14th Baronet Harington.

Nutter and the show’s producer Carolyn Strauss also discussed the controversial treatment of women in the last series, which included rape, death by burning and a naked walk of shame through King’s Landing.

In particular they talked the death of Princess Shireen, who was burned at the stake by her father Stannis Barratheon in an attempt to curry favour with the god The Lord of Light

Nutter said: "Everyone needed to feel what was going to happen to this young girl.

"It was an amazingly powerful moment that turned out just right."

Strauss added: “Just because it's painful doesn't mean it's not a good point in the story. It wasn't done because of the pain, it was done in spite of the pain."

She also pointed out that men were beaten, killed and tortured as well, saying: "Things were not great for a lot of people, male and female."

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as “Game of Thrones" creator George R. R. Martin were not there, which meant no tidbits were released about what will be happening in the sixth season of the smash hit HBO show.
