Newcastle, Wigan and Hull set to spark summer bidding war for Derby star Commons

Commons touch: The Derby winger is in demand by three Premier League clubs for this summer

Derby County winger Kris Commons is being trailed by Wigan Athletic, Newcastle United and Hull City.

Commons, 25, who is sidelined by a calf strain, has been in stunning form this season and attracted plenty of attention during the January transfer window.

In the summer, those clubs are planning to come in with concrete offers for a player who joined Derby from Nottingham Forest last summer.

His displays for County have made him a regular in the plans of Scotland boss George Burley.

Commons aims to return to action against Barnsley on Saturday - just in time to prove his fitness for Scotland's World Cup qualifiers against Holland and Iceland.

The Scots face Holland on March 28 and Iceland four days later.

Kevin Phillips, meanwhile, is being targeted by Australian side Perth Glory.

Although the Birmingham striker, 35, has been suffering recently with a hamstring injury, he is high on Perth's wish-list.

But Phillips' contract with the Championship club runs to summer 2010 and he has Barclays Premier League ambitions if City go up.
