LUKE AUGUSTUS: Robin van Persie's career at Manchester United is drawing to a close after the Fenerbahce-bound striker touched down in Turkey ahead of his move to the club.

Van Persie was all smiles as he landed at the Sabhia Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul on Sunday afternoon.

The 31-year-old's arrival in the Turkish capital was greeted by a fanfare of Fenerbahce supporters who were eager to meet their soon-to-be forward.

SIMEON GHOLAM: Raheem Sterling's imminent record-breaking £49million transfer to Manchester City will provide a very timely boost for recently-relegated Queens Park Rangers.

Liverpool have accepted an initial bid of £45m from their Premier League rivals, with a further £4m in add-ons, and QPR are set to pocket £9m from the deal.

The Reds signed Sterling as a 15-year-old from the west London club for an initial fee of £500,000 in 2010, but there was also a 20 per cent sell-on clause inserted into the deal.

ADAM SMITH: Feyenoord have confirmed that captain Jordy Clasie will miss their upcoming friendlies due to concrete interest being shown in him. 

Southampton have been credited with an interest in the Dutchman as they seek a long-term replacement for the highly-coveted Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Eredivisie club confirmed on their Twitter account that the 24-year-old would not be taking part in some of their pre-season preparations.

Brazilian-born Croatian striker Eduardo da Silva rejoined Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday on an 18-month contract after he was released by Flamengo, the Ukrainian club said.

The arrival of Eduardo, who scored 36 goals in 113 games for the club between 2010 and 2014, follows the departure of three Brazilian players - Douglas Costa, Luiz Adriano and Fernando.

'It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to return to the club that has always been in your heart,' Eduardo told Shakhtar's official website.

MATT MALTBY: Real Madrid stars past and present have joined in force to pay tribute to club legend Iker Casillas as the goalkeeper prepares to leave the La Liga giants.

The 34-year-old spent 16 seasons with Madrid, winning 18 domestic trophies and playing 725 games for the club.

However, the Spain international has decided to move on to pastures new and will play for Portuguese side Porto next season.

ROHAN BANERJEE: Outspoken Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini has made no secret of his desire to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club, but has acknowledged the stiff competition he would face to do so. 

The 33-year-old striker, who has one year left to run on his contract at PSG, spent three consecutive league title-winning seasons at Inter between 2006 and 2009; before moving on to similarly successful spells at Barcelona, AC Milan and his current side.

'Zlatan is a great player,' Mancini told reporters, 'He has won so many titles in the last 10 years.'

MIKE KEEGAN: Manchester United remain in talks with Southampton over Morgan Schneiderlin - despite their capture of fellow midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

An official from Old Trafford travelled to south coast last week in a bid to thrash out a deal with the Saints for the Frenchman.

And Sportsmail understands that while an agreement has not yet been reached, the move is not affected by £15m Schweinsteiger's pending arrival in Manchester.

Bastian Schweinsteiger will land at Manchester Airport to complete his £15m move to Manchester United from Bayern Munich on Sunday.

The Germany captain, who was accompanied by his girlfriend and tennis star Ana Ivanovic, will undergo a medical and agree personal terms before finalising a deal to join the Old Trafford outfit. 

Schweinsteiger is likely to be back in the air on Monday as Manchester United travel to America to take part in the International Champions Cup. 

Italy forward Ciro Immobile is joining Spanish side Sevilla on loan from Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund say the transfer is agreed 'in principle' and the 25-year-old will join Sevilla upon completion of a medical 'initially on loan' until June 2016.

Immobile joined Dortmund from Torino for £13m in June 2014 but struggled to compensate for Robert Lewandowski's departure to Bayern Munich.

ASHLEY CLEMENTS: Stoke City have confirmed the signing of former Liverpool and England defender Glen Johnson.

The 30-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with Mark Hughes' side and has arrived in Singapore to join his new team-mates for a pre-season tour of the Far East.  

Johnson was a free agent after being released by Liverpool and had no hesitation in moving to a club that finished ninth in the Premier League last season. An additional bonus is that he doesn't have to uproot his family who are settled in the north-west.

MATT MALTBY: Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan and Rafael has been offered as part of a potential deal, according to the defender's agent.

The Red Devils have had a busy few days in the transfer window after signing Matteo Darmian from Torino and they are also on the verge of securing Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger.

But Louis van Gaal is reportedly still on the hunt for new players and after signing defender Darmian, he would willing to sell right back Rafael.

MATT MALTBY: Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed he was not surprised to hear fans voice their anger at the club's decision to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United.

The 59-year-old announced at a press conference on Saturday that the Germany captain will depart the club in need for a new challenge.

'I don't know if they were booing Bayern Munich or just the transfer itself,' he told Bild.

'But I expected this reaction, and was prepared for it. You have to explain something like this sensibly.'

Glen Johnson's move to Stoke City has been confirmed.

The former Liverpool defender has signed an initial two-year deal at the club.

ADAM SHERGOLD: The news that Bastian Schweinsteiger will be swapping Munich for Manchester this summer was met with the inevitable chorus that the 30-year-old is past his best.

JOE BERNSTEIN: Tottenham's young Croatian midfielder Tomislav Gomelt is set to join Italian club Bari on a free transfer after being released at White Hart Lane.

Gomelt, 20, joined Spurs from NK Zagreb in 2012 but was unable to play competitive games on his arrival because Croatia were outside the EU at the time.

He went on loan to Espanyol's B team, Royal Antwerp and last season had a spell at Serie B side Bari where he did enough for them to offer a permanent contract.

SIMON JONES: Watford are rivalling Bournemouth for St Etienne winger Max Gradel.

The French club want £7m for the 27-year-old former Leeds United player. Bournemouth have offered £6m while Southampton have also shown an interest. 

However, Watford have now stepped into the race and are willing to match St Etienne’s valuation.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi is keen on a move back to Italy, according to his agent Alejandro Mazzoni.

Lavezzi's future is up in the air as the Argentina international has just one more year left to run on his current deal at Parc des Princes.

His agent, speaking to Tuttosport, said: 'I have an excellent relationship with Giuseppe Marotta and Massimiliano Allegri (Juventus' sporting director and manager).

'We are also ready to hear the proposals of all the big clubs who are interested. Juve are a good team. If they call us, we will be ready and excited to open negotiations. Ezequiel wants to return to Italy - Serie A is always in his thoughts.'

SIMON JONES: Middlesbrough hope to finalise Stewart Downing’s transfer from West Ham this week.

Boro and Downing are discussing the structure of payment on Downing’s proposed £6million transfer which will include bonuses for promotion.

SAMI MOKBEL: Tottenham are preparing to re-enter the race for Morgan Schneiderlin after Manchester United pushed ahead with their deal for Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Schneiderlin looked set for a move to Old Trafford after Arsenal pulled out of the running for the France midfielder.

But Schweinsteiger's move to United has thrown the Southampton star's own move north into doubt.

The club took to Twitter to post a picture of the 35-year-old posing with their shirt adorned with his name and squad No 10. 

The former Barcelona forward had seemed to be heading for a move to Turkish side Antalyaspor this summer but instead is returning to Brazil.

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has described Bastian Schweinsteiger as 'top drawer' and a 'true leader of men' who can drive the Red Devils back to the top.

Robson, 58, told The Sun: 'Schweinsteiger is the kind of player and personality United have been short of.

'There is Michael Carrick, of course, who has that same experience and knowledge. When he was not playing last season, we saw that United were not the same team.

'Schweinsteiger is absolutely top drawer and his record and reputation speak for themselves.

'He is the kind of player that can lead United back to the very top.'

Raheem Sterling's move to Manchester City has moved a step closer as he will not travel to Asia for Liverpool's pre-season tour and he has said goodbye to his current team-mates.

La Gazzetta Sportiva claim Stephan El Shaarawy's proposed move to Monaco could start a domino effect in the transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who signed a new five-year deal in June, is reportedly available for £22million as Barcelona agreed to reduce his release clause from a staggering £108m when he put pen to paper.

Pedro could end his 11-year association with Barcelona after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot at the club due to the form of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
