Oregon airport now allows passengers to carry up to an ounce of marijuana on in-state flights
- Portland International Airport allows passengers who are 21 and older can carry up to an ounce of marijuana on flights taking off and landing in Oregon
- The announcement came just one week after the drug was legalized in the state on July 1
- People carrying marijuana will be checked by Port Police who will confirm their age and travel location as well as the weight of pot they're carrying
A week after recreational marijuana was legalized in Oregon, Portland International Airport announced that passengers can now carry the drug on in-state flights.
Travelers who are 21 years old or older can care up to one ounce of marijuana - the amount that is legal to carry across the state - when boarding flights that take off and land within the state's borders.
Airport officials said that if a TSA agent finds pot on a person, he or she will notify Port Police, who will then check to see if the passenger is carrying the legal limit, if the person is of age and confirm that the passenger is not traveling outside Oregon.

The security area of Portland International Airport includes a notice featuring a crossed out marijuana plant and reads, 'Please be advised recreational marijuana is not permitted on flights traveling outside of Oregon'. Travelers are, however, allowed to carry the drug on in-state flights
If the passenger passes the requirements, he or she will be able to board the flight with no issues.
Passengers who are caught with the legal limit of marijuana but are traveling outside of Oregon will be asked by TSA agents to get rid of the pot before getting back in line, airport officials told KPTV.
New signs posted in Portland International Airport read: 'Please be advised recreational marijuana is not permitted on flights traveling outside of Oregon.
Though marijuana is also legal in the neighboring state of Washington, passengers still can not travel across borders with the drug.
'Traveling across state lines is still a federal crime,' Steve Johnson from the Port of Portland told UPI. 'However, if someone is flying within the state to another destination in the state, traveling with recreational marijuana is allowable if they meet all the legal requirements,' he added.
