Novak Djokovic celebrated his Wimbledon final victory over Roger Federer by eating the grass on Centre Court in front of the cheering crowds.

World No1 Djokovic let out a mighty roar following his 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win against the Swiss player in SW19 on Sunday afternoon before chowing down on the vegetation.

And the 28-year-old Serbian, who won the tournament for the third time in his career, was only too happy to reveal the reasoning behind his celebration piece after the four sets win.

He joked: 'I was assured it was gluten free, it's not processed, completely organic and natural and I could eat it,' he said. 'So I had no reaction.

'As I said on the court, when I was a child, dreaming of winning Wimbledon, it was something I always wanted to do in my celebration. I picked that. I hope people are not annoyed by that.'

Djokovic's third Wimbledon title was also his ninth Grand Slam title and he later admitted he had more than one reason to celebrate on Sunday night.

He added: 'A year ago I won the Wimbledon trophy, and on July 12, we got married in the church and started a new life together.
