Man United star Gary Neville caught texting at the wheel

On the pitch, he never takes his eye of the ball - but Man United's Gary Neville certainly took his eye off the road today, when he was photographed fiddling with his mobile phone.

The Red Devils club captain appeared to be texting while he arrived at the Carrington training ground this morning, ahead of tomorrow's clash against Tottenham.

But at least his choice of car was somewhat redemptive.

Eschewing the Bentleys and Ferraris his fellow footballers favour, the eco-friendly 34-year-old drove an electric-hybrid car.

The Toyota Prius, which is worth £20,000, is the most fuel efficient car sold in the U.S. It switches from running on petrol to electricity at speeds under 30mph.

It's a rare show of modesty from Neville, who is famed for an ostentatious country pile featuring a hedge pruned to spell out MUFC.

The footballer, who has played for United since 1992, still harbours hopes of featuring in Fabio Capello's squad for next summer's World Cup in Africa.
