Arsene Wenger fears Tomas Rosicky will miss the start of the new season after suffering a knee injury while on international duty.

Rosicky, who signed a one-year extension to his contract in May, damaged a knee playing for the Czech Republic, less than a month later.

Both he and Danny Welbeck are missing from Wenger's squad for the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore having stayed in London for treatment and fitness work.

The Arsenal boss predicts it will be five weeks before Rosicky is even back in training with his team-mates, although Welbeck hopes to return sooner.

Wenger said: 'Rosicky came back with a knee problem from the international Czech game against Iceland. He will be longer; four to five weeks. Welbeck will be one or two weeks before he starts to train again.

'Welbeck has still not recovered from the pain he had from bone-bruising [on a knee]. It is unbelievable because there is no major damage there. He is supposed to start running again at the end of the week.'

Wenger initially expected to be without Welbeck for only a matter of days when he hurt his knee at the start of May, but he was ruled out of the FA Cup final and missed England's internationals against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.

Alexis Sanchez and David Opsina are not at the tournament in Singapore having been given time off after the Copa America tournament.

Mesut Ozil is with the squad and Wenger issued a hands-off warning to Juventus amid speculation that the Italian champions are set to target Arsenal's German play-maker.

Wenger said: 'Ozil is our player, he will remain our player and he wants to remain our player.

'It is a big season for him because he had a difficult start last year and in the second part of the season he was very important.

'He understands the rhythms of English football and he has improved his defensive attitude. He works hard and offensively he is a top class player.

'There are many offensive players who have an important season in front of them but I'm confident because I think they have the quality.'
