Beauty heroes: Ten years of life-changing products

These are the beauty products that changed the lives of millions of women all over the country - everyday heroes, the make-up and skincare items we are most likely to have on our bathroom shelves or in our make-up bags.

Most importantly, they all pass the only test that really matters - they work.

HERO PRODUCT: Nivea Visage Anti-Wrinkle Q10 Plus Day Cream, £10.65, Boots

When this cream launched, it was truly ground-breaking and it remains the world’s best-selling antiwrinkle cream, with a pot sold every two seconds.

Nivea was the first to utilise the antiageing benefits of Co-enzyme Q10.

This vitamin-like substance has visible line reduction power, wrinkle-delaying action and powerful antioxidant properties, meaning you see a reduction in wrinkles in four weeks.

The newest formula has double the amount of Q10 and is a skincare must-have for millions all over the world.

The launch of this new-generation volumising mascara marked the comeback of big lashes for millions of women.

This was L’Oreal’s first false-lash effect mascara - one that built extreme volume and spectacular length - and it’s still a bestseller, with one selling every minute.

The formula is unique - natural, conditioning waxes coat each lash providing maximum volume, while an exclusive patented ‘branched’ wax gives the ultimate volume boost for a dramatic 3D effect.

Antioxidant green-tea extract provides protection before and after heat styling. It also tames flyaways and protects hair from environmental stresses.

It made self-tanning novices feel confident that they could add natural-looking colour to pale skin, with no fear of streaky mistakes.

Holiday Skin was the first body moisturiser to sell more than one million bottles in five weeks, and it’s still flying off the shelves.

Make-up that includes skincare (a category Boots dubbed ‘skinwear’ last year) will be big beauty news for 2010, as more of us look for beauty products that do more than one thing.

This skincare with make-up, launched in June, was welcomed by legions of busy women.

‘You can apply it in 30 seconds before the school run,’ was how one user described it. This has a touch of Max Factor foundation, which provides just enough coverage, combined with Olay’s trusted agedefying skincare.
