Madonna adopts the lumberjack look as she takes her daughters to a Kabbalah meeting in London

It's unlikely she ever had to dress like this in her native Malawi.

But Madonna’s adopted daughter Mercy James was well protected against the elements as she ventured out during her first freezing Christmas in Britain.

The four-year-old joined Madonna’s daughter Lourdes, 13, and boyfriend Jesus Luz for a Kabbalah service in London on Boxing Day.

The rest of Madonna’s family, nine-year-old son Rocco and adopted David, four, spent the festive period with her former husband, film-maker Guy Ritchie.

Madonna and Mercy

They enjoyed a traditional turkey lunch at his country estate in Wiltshire on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, Mercy’s friends at the orphanage she was adopted from in Malawi were treated to presents including Croc shoes, toys and chocolates sent by Madonna, with gift tags which read: ‘Love from Mercy.’

Madonna looked more dressed for Siberia than London as she arrived at the Kabbalah centre.

After the heavy snow and ice that hit most of the UK last week, the past couple of days have brought slightly warmer climes to the city, as temperatures nudged to 7C on Boxing Day.

So the red plaid lumberjack hat and the long padded coat might have been a little excessive for the Material Girl - or maybe it's just very cold inside the Kabbalah building.

Although she'll have the last laugh as forecasters said today that the cold snap is set to return to the UK just in time for the New Year.

Madonna, 51, arrived with her bouncer and two daughters Lourdes, 13, and three-year-old Mercy James, who she adopted from Malawi this summer - and who managed to get her mum to carry her doll.

And while Lourdes looked casual in skinny jeans, a hooded top and a long loose scarf, Mercy, like her mother, was also wrapped up snug in a woollen coat and matching hat and scarf.

The two girls spent Christmas with their mother while their brothers, Rocco, nine, and four-year-old David Banda, also adopted from Malawi, spent Christmas Day with Madonna's ex-husband, director Guy Ritchie.

But while Mercy enjoyed her first Christmas in England, her pop star mother made sure her friends back home in Africa were not forgotten.

She sent gifts for the children at the Kondanani Children’s Village orphanage - where she adopted Mercy from - as well as providing them with food and drink for a Christmas party.

And the 80 children were delighted with their festive treat, which included fizzy drinks, hamburgers, chocolate and cake.

And they were also given Croc shoes and other toys, all with gift tags which read, 'Love from Mercy.'

Six-year-old orphan Chitsanzo said: 'I am very happy my friend Mercy bought us shoes, toys, chocolates and cakes. They are very beautiful."

Her friend Happiness, four, added: 'I'm so happy I have received Christmas gifts. I have my own toys now.'
