Having graduated from their youth system, King made his debut for Spurs in 1999 against Liverpool as an 18-year-old  coming off the bench to replace Stephen Clemence at half-time.

He went on to make a further 320 appearances for the north London side. King was made Spurs captain in 2005 and lifted the League Cup with them in 2008, following a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the final at Wembley.

Sadly, a succession of injuries cut King's playing career short and he was forced into early retirement three years ago, aged 31.

Determined not to cast one of their best players aside, however, Spurs employed King in an ambassadorial role.
