Teen idol looks, aspiring acting careers and their very own rock band: Meet the Smiths, the Mormon family being hotly tipped to become the Osmonds of their generation

  • Lucky Blue Smith, 17, enjoys a similar teen icon status to Donny Osmond
  • Has three model sisters: Starlie, 21, Daisy, 19 and Pyper, 17
  • In rock band, The Atomics, together and are getting increasingly famous
  • The Osmond family enjoyed enduring fame as a family and in solo careers

With piercing blue eyes, smouldering gaze and striking ice-blonde hair, it's not hard to see why 6ft 3in American model Lucky Blue Smith has been touted as a rising star in the fashion industry.

As well as securing high-profile campaigns with the likes of Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger, the 17-year-old is an aspiring actor, and the drummer in a rock band, its other members comprising of his three model sisters, no less.

With all four Smith siblings in possession of the family's trademark eyebrows and cut-glass cheekbones, signed to Next Models LA and making waves with their 'surf-rock' music, their potential brings to mind another family with ambition: The Osmonds in the early Seventies.

One of the most enduring showbiz families in American musical history, they enjoyed global fame, which has endured since.

The Smiths are comprised of Starlie Cheyenne, 21, Daisy Clementine, 19, Pyper America, 18 and of course, Lucky - the youngest at 17.

Like the Osmonds, the Smith family hail from Utah - but rather than Salt Lake City, the good-looking brood come from the much smaller Spanish Fork.

Their band, The Atomics - described as 'old-school surf' - has Lucky on the drums, Pyper on the bass, Daisy on the guitar and Starlie on lead vocals.

The Smiths too started young, receiving instruments for Christmas - drums for Lucky Blue when he was just seven.

Father Dallon Smith taught them their instruments, and their mother, former model Sheridan Smith is their biggest super-fan, who labels herself 'Atomic Mama' on her Instagram account.

The family were discovered by Alexis Borges, Agency Director and Next Models LA, who first spotted Daisy and signed her at the age of 14 - the rest of the family swiftly followed.

In an interview with the Guardian, Borges admitted that he saw potential in Lucky Blue, even at the age of 10, gushing: 'He reminded me of a baby Brad Pitt.'

It is Borges himself who compares the multi-talented Smith family 'to the Osmonds or the Jacksons'.

It's clear why parallels with the Osmonds are being drawn. It was certainly a family affair; they started out as a barbershop quartet but comprised seven members eventually: Alan, 66, Wayne, 63, Merrill, 62, Jay, 60, Donny, 57, Marie, 55, and Jimmy Osmond, 52.

They went on to achieve success as teen idols in the Seventies, even producing a popular self-titled TV show, and continued on to gain worldwide fame as solo and group performers.

Lucky's first taste of stardom came at the age of 12,when iconic French photographer Hedi Slimane shot him for a Vogue Hommes Japan portfolio.

At the tender age of 13, the entire family took part in a Gap advert, and a year later, Lucky was drumming in front of the Hollywood sign for a Levi's campaign.

According to the 17-year-old's staggering 1.2 million followers - most of which are teenage girls - it's clear that, at the moment, the light shines strongest on Lucky Blue.

This level of hysteria, which sees throngs of girls waiting for him after catwalk shows, is reminiscent of that which surrounded Donny Osmond, who hit the peak of his heartthrob status in 1972 - a similarly young age to Lucky Blue now.

While unlike the Osmonds, where one sister, Marie, was swamped by her brothers, Lucky enjoys the company of his three strikingly beautiful sisters.

Starlie, the eldest, boasts a mane of jet-black hair and fierce pout; ethereal Pyper shares Lucky's peroxide aesthetic - with brows even dyed to match, whereas Daisy sports a much more golden, athletic look.

Also like the Osmonds, who produced a hit self-named TV show featuring the brothers as cartoons, the Smiths are also in talks to do a TV show.

In the interview with the Guardian, Lucky Blue swiftly points out that the show will not be 'another crap reality drama that is pointless', but would be more like a 'docu-show about the making of the music.'

Yet another uncanny similarity that the Smiths have to the household name family, the Osmonds, is the huge part that religion plays in their lives.

Both families are openly and devoutly Mormon, with Lucky Blue Smith even admitting in an interview with the Business of Fashion, that he is planning on abstaining from sex until married.

The Osmonds are still devout believers and practicers of their faith, with 57-year-old Donny Osmond expressing in an interview with Huffington Post this year that it 'keeps me grounded'.

Speaking to the Guardian, model agent Borges described Lucky, saying: 'He's an honest kid. He's squeaky clean, he doesn't go to clubs. It's all about work for him at the moment.'

With all the ingredients to household name-success there, the Smiths also enjoy the added advantage of modern day technology and methods of self-promotion via Instagram.
