Tina Malone was rushed to hospital after her left breast implant ‘exploded’ due to an infection.

The actress, who is currently having £50,000 worth of cosmetic surgery for an upcoming documentary, was forced to have emergency surgery last week after her implant ruptured on Friday.

Her husband Paul spoke about the terrifying moment as he explained: ‘It was awful. You can imagine how scared we all were.'

Speaking to the Sunday People, he continued: ‘It’s not something you expect to happen with breast implants.

‘It just came out of nowhere and exploded. There was some kind of infection that made it balloon up. We couldn’t take any chances and had to get her in’.

Tina, 51, was given antibiotics for the infection and sent home to rest following her surgery.

The star reassured fans that she was okay as she took to Twitter on Sunday morning writing: ‘hi all,i am fit and well and have great arms,no bingo wings,a flat stomach,and incredible breasts for the first time in my life!!!!!!’.

She added: ‘heres to my facelift,knecklift,eyes top and bottom!!!!! 3weeks to go hurray the hospital group surgeons are AMAZING!!!!! and all staff.’

The Celebrity Big Brother star, who had a gastric bypass to help her lose 11 stone – is documenting her cosmetic surgery journey on TLC following the success of her fly-on-the-wall series she created with the network about having an IVF baby at the age of 50.

Following weight loss in order to have the IVF treatment and the birth of her daughter Flame in 2013, the star was left with a large amount of excess skin. It was at a boot camp that she met her future husband who is 19 years younger.

Speaking on This Morning with her 19-year younger husband Paul in January to explain why she was having plastic surgery, Tina admitted: ‘I’ll get my face lift and all my plastic surgery. 'I’ll be under the knife... eyes, neck everything. It’s not about doing it for him it’s about doing it for me.

She added: 'It’s for me to feel better it’s the cherry on the cake. I’ve lost all the weight, I’m eight stone six, I’m a size six but I have this horrendous skin.'

The Shameless star, who is now a svelte size 10, previously revealed that her extra skin is also affected her confidence.

'I just want to look the best I can look, for me there is nothing wrong with that,’ she explained on This Morning last year. ‘Nobody else is paying for it, I’m still pay off my debts with the bankruptcy. I am happy and healthy, with a beautiful child.'

'I've got the longest boobs in the world, I could tie them around my waist like a belt,’ she joked, before adding: 'It depressed me. I made Jabba the Hutt look attractive.'
