'I think it's beautiful!' Tammin Sursok praises model Nicole Trunfio for helping normalise breastfeeding but warns it's not always as glamorous as she makes it look

As a mother-of-one, Tammin Sursok is only too familiar with the ups and downs of breastfeeding and the controversies that can sometimes arise from doing it in public.

But the 31-year-old actress thinks it's natural and has congratulated the likes of Australian model Nicole Trunfio for posing on the cover of ELLE Australia while feeding her son Zion.

'I feel like you should be able to breastfeed whenever you need to feed your child,' the Pretty Little Liars star told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday.

'I think it's beautiful. It's amazing... Put it out there, normalise breastfeeding,' she added.

But mother to the adorable Phoenix, 21 months, also thinks it could lead to some new mums feeling inadequate when they see the likes of a slender model doing it so dazzlingly.

'I think sometimes when you just had a baby you don't feel very glamorous,' she said.

'Sometimes these glamorous pictures make other people feel like they don't look as great doing it… as long it doesn't make other people feel like they are not doing it as perfectly.

'Sometimes there's an advantage to it and sometimes there's a disadvantage to it.'

An advocate of supporting 'whatever works for your family', Tammin says sometimes a bottle is the only way thing that works, but for those who breastfeed there should be no stigma attached.

'I was quite frustrated sometimes when people don't like you breastfeeding in public but that is the only source of food your child gets and it's a very natural thing,' she added.

'It's all about trying to find that balance about what you feel comfortable with and what others feel comfortable with… You don't want to make people feel awkward.'

The former Home And Away star also opened up to Daily Mail Australia about the struggles she went through trying to move Phoenix from the breast to a bottle when she had to go back to work.

'I was back at work and I didn't really know what to do because she wouldn't take the bottle and I was working and she was on set with me and I couldn't always go off to breastfeed,' she explained.

Now the business savvy beauty, who also runs production company, Charlie Baby Productions with husband Sean McEwen, is part owner and partner of the company because she knew it was something that would help others.

'For me I just wanted to be part of something that could really help mothers into their children transitioning into the bottle [after breastfeeding],' Tammin told DMA.

'Phoenix was instantly hooked… she loves it!'

'Feeding-time suddenly wasn't so stressful, it became playful and tantrums turned into smiles,' she added.
