Lidl sell recession-friendly 'nutritious' roast dinner ready meal for just £1

Sunday lunch can sometimes be an expensive meal to cook.

So discount supermarket Lidl have attempted to help out those struggling in the recession, by selling an entire roast dinner in a packet for just £1.

The frozen ready meals all include meat and a serving of carrots and peas or carrots and brussel sprouts, which count as one of your 'five-a-day' fruit or vegetables.

Clare Norman, from Lidl, said: 'Our Newgate roast dinners are not only delicious, they will give you a hearty dinner and one of your five-a-day.

'They make a quick and easy nutritious meal at a price our customers have come to expect.

'That is great news for your tastebuds and your wallet.'

As well as the standard vegetables, the roast pork dish comes with sage and onion stuffing, the beef meal includes a Yorkshire pudding and the turkey comes with a small sausage.

Roast lamb and chicken meals are also sold for £1 in the 400g 'premium' Newgate range.

The packaging on the roast beef dinner reads: 'Sliced topside of beef in a rich gravy, served with roast potatoes, baby carrots, peas and a golden Yorkshire pudding.'

The lamb is served in a 'rich mint gravy' and the chicken comes with a 'light onion and herb gravy'.
