Serena Williams proved her body-shaming critics wrong tonight as she stepped out alongside Novak Djokovic to show off her enviable figure at the Wimbledon Champions' Dinner.

Fresh from her convincing victory over Garbine Muguruza, the 33-year-old six-time champion looked resplendent as she arrived at the event in London wearing a hugging, peach-coloured floor-length gown.

In an incredible performance on Saturday afternoon, the World Number One became the oldest ever Wimbledon champion and also moved one step closer to achieving a calendar Grand Slam, holding the titles for the world's four major tournaments in one year.

But after her win, JK Rowling was forced to jump to the player's defence when a troll attributed her tennis success to being 'built like a man'.

In a cutting response to the remark, the 49-year-old immediately posted two more images of Williams in a red figure-hugging knee-length dress before writing: 'Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You're an idiot.'

The effective response - which was retweeted and favourited hundreds of thousands of times - came after the author gushed: '#SerenaSlam! I love her. What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman!'

Speaking last night at the black-tie event about her attendance, Williams added: 'I brought a nice dress, just in case.'

Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, continued his on-court celebrations as he arrived at the Guidlhall in The City of London with his stunning wife Jelena for the lavish do - on what also happens to be his first wedding anniversary.

His teenage sweetheart looked beautiful in a strapless floral dress by Alexander McQueen, which she paired with a stylish clutch and a simple ponytail hairstyle.

Just hours after his four-set victory over Roger Federer, the 28-year-old was also joined by his coach Boris Becker, whose three-win record he has now matched on the lawns of SW19.

Djokovic was crowned Wimbledon champion today for the third time after beating Roger Federer in a nail-biting final.

The Serbian soared to victory for the second year running following a four-set thriller, which was watched on by a star-studded crowd, including Pippa Middleton, Benedict Cumberbatch and Naomi Campbell.

In what was almost a repeat of last year's final, the World Number One sealed the win - his ninth grand slam title - in the fourth set of the game, despite losing the second set to his accomplished rival.

The Swiss 33-year-old - who was hoping for his eighth Wimbledon title - had triumphed following a lengthy tie break, winning 12 points to Djokovic's 10.

But Djokovic's form was too much for Federer and he went on to win the final set 6-3 after his first championship point, matching coach Boris Becker's impressive Wimbledon record.

Djokovic won 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 and 6-3 and will now earn a cool £1.88 million for his victory. Federer takes home £940,000 as runner-up.

Speaking after his win, Djokovic praised the effect that his wife and children had had on his career, saying: 'Ever since I got married and became a father, I haven't lost many matches and have won many tournaments.

'I suggest to every player, get married and have kids and enjoy this. Whether I'm winning or losing, the family's always there. When I go back home I'm not a tennis player any more; I'm a father to Stefan and a husband to Jelena. That's a balance that allows me to play this well.'

Djokovic, who became a father last October, has lost only three matches all season and amassed a 72-7 record since getting married, making him comfortably the world's top-ranked player.

Both champions later posed with their trophies after Djokovic was crowned Men's champion for the third time after beating Roger Federer while Williams was fresh off her convincing victory over Garbine Muguruza

By winning a ninth major, he moved ahead of Fred Perry on the all-time list, plus more contemporary greats such as Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl. After hitting his winning forehand, he sunk to his knees and performed his slightly bizarre tradition of eating a few blades of the Centre Court grass.

'It was always something I wanted to do for celebration when I was a child, dreaming of winning Wimbledon. I hope people are not annoyed by that,' he added. 'I was assured it's not processed. It's gluten-free and completely organic and natural.'

Other names at the event included former Wimbledon champion Marion Barloti, who donned a floor-length sequin-embossed gown, showing off her toned physique.

The French plaer was also criticised over her appearance after winning the title in 2013 when the BBC’s John Inverdale said she was never going to be a 'looker'.

Former British player and TV pundit Tim Henman also attended the gala is his evening attire.
