Between 2012 and 2015, the penthouse was rented out by Pinewood Studios with Tom Cruise and other A-list Hollywood stars such as popstar Rihanna living there while they filmed or performed in London.

It is not known how much was paid to rent the property out, but it likely to have been around £50,000 per week.

The owner, who was not London-based, recently decided to refresh the 19th century apartment and commissioned interiors designers Paul Davies London for the overhaul.

It has now been put on the market for £35 million - with only a few apartment blocks in London offering more expensive flats.

It is regarded as one of the largest and finest lateral apartments in the capital, with flats this large often spread over two of three floors as duplex and triplexes.

Peter Wetherell, chief executive of Wetherell estate agents, said: 'This is arguably the most luxurious penthouse currently on the market in Knightsbridge, providing 10,000 sq/ft of living space and rare aspect views over Hyde Park.

'The owner loved the lateral space, and then rented the property out to a major Hollywood A-lister as his London pied-a-terre. Why? Because the Hollywood star loved the lateral space.

'Now it has been lavishly refurbished and put on the market for sale, it will without a doubt get snapped up because it provides so much lateral space.

'If it was a house on lots of floors it could have been in danger of languishing on the market, but as a mega-lateral it will command a lot of interest.

'Located in what would have been the benchmark for ultra prime developments of its day, Wellington Court appeals to ultra high net worth individuals who prefer traditional built exteriors, combined with the finest modern interiors and finishes.'

Wellington Court was first developed in the 19th Century and was the original high-profile park-side development.
