CAN YOU RUN UP THE STAIRS?

I run up the stairs all the time. It’s not a matter of keeping fit — I’m just one of those people who is always on the go and would rather run than walk.

ANY FAMILY AILMENTS?

My Dad is an asthmatic, and there is a history of allergies in our family. If I wear a belt with a cheap buckle, my skin reacts with a rash. I’m also allergic to house dust, mould, certain pollen — my head feels blocked and I’m a bit wheezy.

POP ANY PILLS?

I take a multi-vitamin supplement when I’m in a theatrical run because you’re using up a lot of energy and can easily get run down. But I still get colds, so I’m not sure it helps.

ANY VICES?

I love red wine. If I’m having a chilled-out Saturday night, I might have three or four glasses.

WORST ILLNESS?

I had pneumonia when I was ten. I remember having a high temperature and just laying there feeling dreadful. And five years ago I had chickenpox, which was awful as I was covered in spots from top to toe. I think I caught it from one of my children — Jemma, ten, and Zac, nine. I just had to stay in bed until I felt better.

TRIED ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE?

I tried acupuncture for my allergies. It seemed to shift them for a while, but maybe that was psychological.

DO YOU GET YOUR FIVE-A-DAY

Having grown up in Australia, I’m used to eating good, fresh food, so I don’t count what I eat. I start the day with fruit mixed with granola or yoghurt and eat healthily throughout the day.

WOULD YOU HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY?

I never say never, but right now I’m happy with what I see in the mirror.

IS SEX IMPORTANT?

I think it’s important in a loving relationship. Otherwise you might as well just be friends.

HOW WELL DO YOU COPE WITH PAIN?

I broke my finger two years ago lifting an antique Buddha into my house — the pain was agonising, but I coped. I swear a lot rather than run for the paracetamol.

EVER BEEN DEPRESSED

I don’t get depressed because I exercise. I’m adamant about this. I don’t see too many fit people who are depressed.

HANGOVER CURE?

Have another glass of wine the next day. I think it works.

BIGGEST PHOBIA?

My biggest fear is fear itself — falling into the trap of feeling anxious and fearful all the time.

Jason Donovan has released an album of cover versions, Soundtrack Of The 80s, and will soon be touring in the musical War Of The Worlds.
