Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal treats himself to a well-deserved Ibiza getaway as the men's final gears up at Wimbledon

He crashed out of Wimbledon earlier this month.

So it's understandable that Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal should treat himself to a getaway in Ibiza - especially as the world prepares to watch Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic battle it out in the annual tournament's final.

The handsome 29 year-old was spotted spearfishing off the island, where he was clearly enjoying being off-duty following a gruelling schedule.

The Manacor-born star was seen slipping into a wetsuit for the past-time, where he was joined by a bunch of close friends.

Stood on a makeshift deck, 'Rafa' - who is currently ranked world No. 10 - looked relaxed, albeit downbeat, as he decompressed from the West London championship.

Widely regarded as the greatest clay court player in history, having earned the nickname King of Clay, he seemed happy to be joined by his pals.

The two-time Wimbledon champion was stunned after losing out to qualifier Dustin Brown in a pulsating match on 2 July.

Germany's world number 102 won 7-5 3-6 6-4 6-4 to reach the third round of the tournament and dazzled the Wimbledon crowd with his swashbuckling style and imaginative shot selection.

Brown - who first toured the European tennis circuit in a VW camper van - blew away the 14-time Grand Slam winner at SW19 in a memorable match.

Brown's brilliant win continues Nadal's recent dismal run at SW19.

The sportsman has now lost in the second, first, fourth and second rounds on his past four visits to Wimbledon. On each occasion Nadal was beaten by a player outside the world's top 100.

Fortunately, he is certainly making the most of his time away.

Just 24 hours before he went fishing he was seen enjoying a casual boat trip in Formentera with his loyal friends, which belongs to the Balearic Islands.

Stepping out in shorts and a T-shirt, which showed off his muscular legs and toned arms, he certainly cut a fit figure.

In a recent interview with the Mail's Live Magazine, the sportsman confessed that he loves alternative forms of exercise - because he hates the gym.

'I don’t spend much time in there and I never have done – I just don’t see why.

'I only ever run when there’s some point to it – say, if it’s in a game of tennis. I do a lot of aerobics in the pre-season period, but after that I keep fit by playing in tournaments.

'I also love playing football – my preferred position is striker. I can’t play as often as I’d like because of the injury risks.'
