A  'fun-loving' Christmas party-goer has died after her drink was spiked at a house party.

Police are now investigating claims her drink had been laced with heroin substitute methadone at the party on Sunday, December 5.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of supplying the drugs after Miss Thomas collapsed at the party near her home in the town of Pontypridd, South Wales.

She never regained consciousness.

Her family were at her bedside when it was agreed the life support machine should be switched off at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant on Friday.

Miss Thomas' parents Wayne and Jacqueline were too upset to comment yesterday at their three-bedroom, £150,000 semi-detached home.

One of her close friends said: 'She was a great girl and liked a drink and a party - but she never touched drugs.

'There's no way she would have taken anything voluntarily, she just wasn't like that.

'She went to a party to get into the Christmas mood - but we'll never see her again.'

Police are interviewing fellow party-goers over the tragedy.

A police source said: 'It would appear that something was put into her drink without her knowledge which caused her to collapse.

'Methadone is a very strong substitute for people trying to come off heroin. If you are not used to it, it is extremely dangerous.'

Miss Thomas, who enjoyed visiting nightclubs, wrote on her profile on social networking site Facebook: 'Love going out socialising with all my mates and getting very very drunk until I fall over ha ha xxx.'

Her boyfriend Jason Hay, 43, was described as being 'devastated' at her death after the party.

A police spokesman said: 'An officer responded to an emergency call at 11.30pm after concerns were raised about a 26-year-old female's wellbeing.

'Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and two local men have been arrested.

'They were bailed pending further inquiries.'

Glamorgan Valleys coroner's officer Stuart Griffiths said a post-mortem examination was due to be held today.
