Wanted man: Leighton Baines is a target for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich will offer £9million for England full-back Leighton Baines in their efforts to prise him from Everton in January.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed the German champions’ interest in Baines in October and, despite discouragement from Everton, they have grown more determined in their pursuit.

Bayern played inexperienced Germany U20 international Diego Contento at left-back yesterday as they won 5-3 at Stuttgart but club executives have grave concerns about their defence.

A meeting held last week determined that they will start with a £9m bid for Baines and see how Everton react.

Everton manager David Moyes has made it clear he has no intention of selling one of his best players with the 26-year-old pivotal to his style of play. He is well settled in Liverpool and only signed a five year contract extension earlier this year.

However, Bayern are aware Moyes needs money to strengthen his squad with loan signings such as Nicklas Bendtner, David Bentley and Landon Donovan possibly the best he can expect on his limited transfer budget.
