Perhaps the most exciting part of the ominous sneak peek came at the end as Jared Leto fully reveled himself in character as iconic baddie The Joker.

The 43-year-old Oscar winner looked almost unrecognisable with pasty white make-up and neon green hair as he looked like he was administer electric shock torture on a victim.

Before the trailer ends, in his most menacing voice the baddie says: 'I'm not going to kill you. I'm just going to hurt you really, really bad.'

The clip begins with government agents talking over dinner including Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, who makes an interesting suggestion: 'I want to assemble a task force of the most dangerous people on the planet who I think could so some good.'

'And if anything goes wrong we blame them, we have built them deniability. Getting people to act against their own self interest is what I do for a living.'

It quickly transitions to inside of a high-security prison, giving the first look of 25-year-old Robbie in her role as fan-favourite baddie Harley Quinn.

The accomplice and girlfriend of Joker could be seen hung up by a white sheet in her jail cell while performing some acrobatic moves.

Followers worldwide were able to see the clip earlier as expected as fan shot versions were leaked online during the film's Comic-Con presentation.

Warner Bro.'s marketing chief Sue Kroll addressed the leak in a statement: 'It’s unfortunate and ultimately damaging that one individual broke a long-standing trust we have enjoyed with our fans at the convention by posting early material, which, at this point, was not intended for a wider audience.'

Leto has quite big shoes to fill as Joker predecessors before him include Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill and the late Heath Ledger.
