Kate Winslet is ravishing as Tilly Dunnage in first look at The Dressmaker... as she shares a sizzling kiss with younger man Liam Hemsworth

It's a movie set in the Outback heat of Australia, but it's the chemistry between 39 year-old actress Kate Winslet and younger love interest Liam Hemsworth, 25, that really sizzles in The Dressmaker.

A new trailer for the movie shows Kate's character Myrtle "Tilly" Dunnage locked in a steamy kiss with Teddy McSweeney, played by Liam.

The movie follows the story of Tilly, a dressmaker who returns to a small Australian town after many years living in Paris to take care of her sick mother.

Starring alongside British-born Kate and Australian Liam is Hugo Weaving, Sarah Snook and Judy Davis as Molly Tunnage, Tilly's unstable mother, who at one point is heard calling her daughter 'a murderer and a lesbian.'

The jab comes when Tilly returns to Australia after many years living and working as a dressmaker in Paris, only to face off against accusations form her past that she murdered a young boy when she was just ten years-old.

Using the power invested in her by her sewing machine, Tilly is able to give the town's ugly-duckling resident Gertrude "Trudy" Pratt -played by Sarah Snook- a jaw-dropping makeover.

However, in order to fit her for her sumptuous new gown, she is required to  strip off- and when Tilly demands Gertrude take off her clothes in front of her and her mother, Molly is prompted to add 'lesbian' to her previous assessment of 'murderer'.

Tilly's return causes a stir throughout the town, with reactions from residents including, 'I don't know why you've come to this hole,' 'She's back- the murderess is back!' and from Liam's character Teddy, a thoughtful, 'Haven't seen her since she was a kid. Wonder how she turned out?'

But causes even more of a reaction in the trailer are the breathtaking outfits sported by Kate.

Especially jarring against the spare landscape, the luxurious crimson tones of one figure-hugging dress draws the attention of the all-male sports team practising in the field- led by Liam .

But that's not enough to quash the rumours that Kate killed a little boy, and the issue of Kate's guilt or innocence is at the centre of film.

Kate is seen struggling with her reputation throughout the trailer,as she says 'I didn't do it, it's just a pack of lies,' and 'They'll never forgive me for that boy's death.'
