Jules Bianchi's father says his family still go through 'daily torture' and is less optimistic about his son's recovery following his crash at Suzuka last season.

The Marussia driver suffered a diffuse axonal injury following a collision with a crane on the side of the circuit in October 2014, and remains in a coma as he continues to receive treatment in Nice.

And Philippe, speaking to France info radio, admits that there has been no significant progress.

'It's unbearable, it is a daily torture,' he said. 'It sometimes seems crazy because for me, it is certainly worse than if he had died in the accident. Because we don't have the power to help him more.

'In general, progress must be made in the first six months and it has been nine months and Jules is still not awake and there is no significant progress.

'The passing time, it makes me less optimistic than I was two or three months after the accident, when we were hoping for a better outcome.'

Philippe Bianchi also revealed he had spoken to his son about Michael Schumacher's injury and self-induced coma before Jules' accident at the Japanese Grand Prix.

'We talked about it. He discussed with us that if one day he had an accident like that of Michael Schumacher, that even if his only handicap was not being able to drive, he would have a lot of difficulty living. Because it was his life.'

Bianchi scored Marussia's first points in Formula One at the Monaco Grand Prix and was tipped as a future Ferrari driver.
