Mystery as woman's body is washed up on the coast of Kent

Police were today trying to establish how a woman's body came to be washed up on the South Coast early this morning.

A dog walker found the corpse at a slipway at Minnis Bay, Kent, at 7.30am, a police spokesman  said.

It is understood the woman was aged in her 50s and was believed to be from Sidcup, south-east London.

Her next of kin have been informed although she has yet to be formally identified.

Kent Police said the death was 'unexplained', and they were awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.

A spokesman said the post-mortem would not be held until next week. The coroner had been informed, she added.
