While many find the prospect of moving house stressful, it seems like Katie Holmes is finding the whole thing a breeze. 

The 36-year-old actress was positively beaming as she stepped out in New York in a chic maxi dress on Sunday, just a short while after packing up and moving into a new home in the city.  

Enjoying a stroll through SoHo, the former Dawson's Creek star looked stunning in a bright strapless design, which was emblazoned with an array of clashing prints.

She teamed the style with a pair of black leather sliders and an oversized handbag of the same colour. 

Katie was clearly enjoying a call from somebody funny as the Batman Begins actress later smiled and laughed as she chatted on her mobile phone.

Showcasing her natural beauty, the star appeared to be wearing virtually no make-up for her evening out and wore her luscious brunette locks in an effortless low bun.

Katie Holmes is all set for summer in New York wearing a strapless printed maxi dress and chic flat sandals. And like all girls she knows the importance of a good -carry everything - handbag.

Katie's been seen on more than one occasion sporting this roomy black satchel tote bag, complete with over-the-shoulder straps and a longer cross body strap. The actress certainly has plenty to smile about given that she's just started leasing a lavish penthouse apartment in the city. 

The $25,000-a-month upmarket pad boasts panoramic views of the city and will no doubt make for a stylish base for Katie and her daughter Suri, nine. 

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Katie was seen shopping for bargains at the Chelsea Flea Market in Manhattan.

Possibly on the lookout for antique furnishings for her opulent new home, the star mooched around with a female friend before heading off with shopping bags full to the brim. 

Kate famously moved to the Big Apple in 2012 following her high-profile divorce from Mission: Impossible actor Tom Cruise.
