Birmingham plotting double swoop for Man City misfit Wright-Phillips and Leicester midfielder Wellens


Birmingham have made enquiries for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and Leicester's attacking midfielder Richie Wellens.

Wellens, 30, gave a man-of-the-match performance against Manchester City in their FA Cup draw last Sunday and Birmingham see him as a possible alternative to Blackpool's Charlie Adam.

The former Manchester United trainee has 18 months left on contract.

City want £5million for Wright-Phillips or his £60,000 a week wages paid in full on any loan deal.

David Bentley has completed his loan move from Spurs to Birmingham and is in contention for a starting place ahead of this weekend’s derby against Aston Villa.

However, Sebastian Larsson's proposed move to either Sunderland or Newcastle has stalled over personal terms.
